STax reaccredited with the Fair Tax Mark

We are pleased to share that STax has been reaccredited with the Fair Tax Mark for our 3rd consecutive year.

The Fair Tax Mark is run by the Fair Tax Foundation, an independent social enterprise. It certifies businesses that follow the spirit, as well as the letter, of tax law, avoid the artificial use of tax havens, and are open about the tax they pay. Around 275 businesses across eight countries now hold it.

“But you help people pay less tax”

It is a fair question, and we would rather answer it than avoid it.

Capital Allowances are not a loophole. They are a relief written into UK law by Parliament to encourage businesses to invest in commercial property, plant and machinery. When a property owner claims the allowances they are entitled to, they are using the tax system exactly as it was designed.

What we do is make sure those claims are complete and correct. Our property tax specialists and surveyors identify qualifying items that are often missed, then document them properly so the claim stands up. That is very different from tax avoidance, which relies on artificial arrangements to get a result the law never intended.

The Fair Tax Foundation makes the same distinction. Its standards recognise that a business may pay less tax in a given year because legitimate reliefs are being claimed within both the spirit and the letter of the law. That is the only kind of work we do.

What reaccreditation involves

The Fair Tax Mark is not a one-off badge. Certification is assessed afresh every year, based on the latest set of financial statements. An independent certifier reviews our accounts, policies and public reporting, and scores them against the Fair Tax Mark standard.

Being reaccredited means we have been checked again, and we still meet that standard.
